In the 21st century, China's film industry has emerged as a global player, showcasing modern and dynamic projects that resonate worldwide and representing a market with a potential of over $7.7 billion in annual box office revenue.

What opportunities arise for film companies when they decide to enter the Chinese market? How can they establish effective dialogue with partners, navigating language barriers and cultural traditions? What must be considered when creating content, and which formats currently hold the greatest potential for success in the region? Is it better for companies to propose co-productions, or should they focus on selling scripts for adaptation and offering unique filming locations?

  • Olga Kashirina
    expert on international cooperation in cinema, producer, orientalist
    She graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Studies at St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) with a degree in Chinese Philology and Literature, as well as from the Faculty of Journalism at SPbSU.
    Since 2006, she has been working in the film industry, taking on roles as an assistant director, line producer, and creative producer. She has collaborated with Russian film companies such as STV, Bazelevs, Art Pictures, Vodorod, Yandex.Studios / Kinopoisk, Bubble Studios, and others.
    She organised the Moscow shooting blocks for the series "McMafia" (BBC-One) and "Chernobyl" (HBO) as a line producer. In 2022, she was responsible for organising the shooting of the Russian film "The Abnormal" in China.
    Currently, she is working as a creative producer on the Russian-Chinese historical blockbuster "Red Silk" and is actively involved in international cooperation, distribution, and co-production in the film industry.

    The first Chinese film about telecommunications fraud, "The Big Lie," won the Golden Shield Film and Television Award from the Ministry of Public Security in 2018.
    Zhou also directed a series of microfilms dedicated to the 40th anniversary of reforms and opening up by the Central Propaganda Department and received the May 1st Labor Model Medal from China Film Group.

Films created by Du Liang have been successful at the box office, with earnings in mainland China reaching up to $100 million. Recently, Du has been actively involved in and investing in joint Chinese-foreign film and television productions.

    An independent film producer, he has been working in the film and television industry since 2003, participating in the production of many domestic and international films and TV dramas. Yan Yang is the CEO and legal representative of companies such as Beijing Xina Culture Media Co., Ltd., Beijing Xina Film and Television Production Co., Ltd., Beijing Xina Artistry Creations Co., Ltd., Tianjin Co-Production Film & Television Co., Ltd., and other companies.
